Flash Education: Renewable Energy Overview

Please view the video of this Flash animation in HD on Youtube and in full-screen (F11).

I desiged this to tell a story in pictures and words about three of the major types of renewable energy. The aim is to provide an accessible overview of hydro, wind and solar photovoltaic power generation.

Note: The Flash program with all the graphic and text files it uses is rather large so I have had to just make a video of it in operation. You can pause the video to read the information (use HD and full-screen).

Silicon doping in solar cells

Doped Silicon:
This basic flash file I made illustrates how solar cells are made by adding tiny impurities of Gp III and GP V elements to silicon (GP IV element). [Use the keys at the bottom to navigate] The results in an electric field being formed across the p-n junction. Without the built-in electric field the free electrons and free holes created by light photons could not be separated to form a current. A solar cell is a type of large surface area diode.
