Rob Duff has had a long term interest in the earth and physical sciences which has led him along a winding path to his current focus on utilising renewable energy, particularly solar energy, for the long term benefit of our planet.
Rob first became aware of evidence for climate and sea-level change in the geological record in the early 1990s, inspiring him to research his Masters thesis on Uplifted Marine Terraces in Taranaki. Following several years as an exploration geologist in Australia, Rob returned to his home country to find himself guiding tourists upon a West Coast glacier in the South Island at which point he began to metamorph into a science and physics teacher.
In 2009 Rob was awarded a Royal Society of New Zealand Teacher Fellowship and was priveleged to spend 9 months working with Genesis Energy in Auckland, assisting their Schoolgen team to educate students about energy and climate issues. See article on Rob in the Schoolgen Newsletter.
Following a return to high school teaching in 2010 Rob now works as an Environmental Educator in the Schoolgen program which has set-up 42 NZ schools with 2 kW photovoltaic arrays and offers ongoing educational support to teachers and students of these lead schools.
